How the Online Coaching Works

You can do all of it from home, even from bed. A normal week looks like this:

  • Daily practice: 10 to 15 minutes of brain-based practice. If that feels like too much, start with 5 minutes, or 2.
  • Video course: 2 to 3 modules a week (20 to 30 minutes each), at your own pace. Low energy? Go slower.
  • Live coaching calls: 45-minute group calls on Zoom, led by a Thriver Coach. Bring your questions and get coached live. Can't make it? The recording is up within 24 hours.
  • Community: post a win or ask a question in Skool, or connect with other members on Discord.
  • Platinum only: private 1-on-1 sessions with your assigned coach, plus direct messaging 5 days a week between calls.
  • Weekends: rest, and notice your wins from the week.

The practices are brain-based, and you can do them from bed.

Who This Is For

  • You have fibromyalgia, or widespread pain, fatigue and "fibro fog" that doctors haven't explained. Maybe every test came back normal. You don't need a diagnosis to join.
  • You've tried medication, physical therapy or supplements. They helped a bit, and the pain keeps coming back.
  • You want live coaching from someone who's been there, on top of the videos.
  • You're anywhere from bedridden to semi-functional. You don't need to reach a certain baseline to start.
  • You've been dealing with this a long time. We've worked with people who've had symptoms for 1 month to 69 years.

Who It Isn't For

  • Anyone looking for a doctor, a diagnosis or a prescription. We don't do those.
  • Anyone who wants a guaranteed result or a set timeline. We can't promise either.
  • Anyone in a medical emergency. Please call your doctor or emergency services now.

Your Coaches Have Been Where You Are

Every Thriver Coach has personally recovered from CFS, Long COVID, or a related condition. They know what it's like to have symptoms doctors can't explain. They know what it's like to hear "everything looks normal" when nothing feels normal.

Our founder, Miguel Bautista, recovered from 50+ symptoms and hospitalization. He built this recovery system from what he learned. Every coach on our team went through their own recovery first, then trained to help others.

When your coach tells you a flare-up doesn't mean you're going backwards, and they've lived it, it's easier to believe. That trust is often what makes the difference between giving up and staying with it through the hard stretches.

We've worked with people as young as 9 and as old as 86, from bedridden to semi-functional and everywhere in between.

What Is Fibromyalgia, and Why Won't It Go Away?

First, this needs to be said: fibromyalgia pain is physical. Anyone who told you it's "just in your head" was wrong.

In a small 2002 brain imaging study (16 people with fibromyalgia and 16 without), the same pressure lit up more pain-related areas of the brain in the people with fibromyalgia. Gracely et al., 2002, Arthritis & Rheumatism

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition, and researchers link it to something called central sensitization. In central sensitization, the nervous system becomes hypersensitive. It can take normal signals, like light touch, pressure or temperature, and turn them up into pain.

Researchers think this may help explain why fibromyalgia pain can move around the body, and why symptoms can change so much from day to day.

Common fibromyalgia symptoms

Fibromyalgia affects much more than pain. Common symptoms include:

  • Widespread body pain
  • Tender points and pressure sensitivity
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Brain fog ("fibro fog")
  • Unrefreshing sleep
  • Headaches and migraines
  • IBS and digestive issues
  • Temperature sensitivity
  • Jaw pain (TMJ)
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Sensitivity to light, sound, and smells

If you're dealing with pain that moves around, fatigue that rest doesn't fix, or brain fog that makes simple tasks hard, bring it up with your doctor. If you've already been diagnosed, you know how hard it is when people don't understand what you're going through.

Where Medication Fits

Keep your doctor, and keep your prescriptions. Any change to your medication is a decision for you and your doctor.

Your doctor may prescribe medications like Lyrica, gabapentin or Cymbalta, or suggest options like trigger point injections, massage or physical therapy.

Our recovery system adds a different layer. Pain medication works on pain signals, and physical therapy works on muscles and joints. Nervous system retraining focuses on the nervous system pattern researchers link to central sensitization. You can use it alongside the care you already get.

A 2016 Cochrane review of clinical trials looked at pregabalin (Lyrica) for fibromyalgia pain. At doses of 300 to 600 mg, about 22 to 24 in 100 people had their pain drop by at least half after 12 to 13 weeks, compared with about 14 in 100 on a placebo. The review found pregabalin helped some people with fibromyalgia. A smaller drop, of at least 30%, happened for about 39 to 43 in 100 people on pregabalin and about 28 in 100 on a placebo. This summarizes trial results and isn't medical advice, so talk to your doctor about your own medication. Derry et al., 2016, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews

Coaching works alongside medical care, so you may also want clinics, specialists or support services near you. Our free Care Finder directory covers 7 countries, and we don't endorse or rank the listings. Browse fibromyalgia care in Care Finder

How the Nervous System Can Learn to Turn Up Pain

Researchers describe central sensitization in a few steps. For many people with fibromyalgia, it may look something like this:

  1. Something sets off the body's alarm system. It could be an injury, a virus, a stretch of heavy stress, a trauma, or a mix. The nervous system switches on its threat response.
  2. The trigger may pass, and the alarm can stay on. Whatever started the pain might be long gone, and the nervous system may stay switched on.
  3. Normal signals start getting treated as threats. Touch, pressure, temperature, movement. Things that normally wouldn't hurt can get flagged as danger, like a volume knob turned up and left there.
  4. Pain can linger and spread. When signals are turned up everywhere, pain can move around. Fatigue, brain fog and sensitivity can pile on too.

This may help explain why pain moves around, why a light touch can hurt, and why sounds and lights can feel too strong. For many people, the nervous system gets stuck in a pattern of over-responding.

The hopeful part: the brain and nervous system can change. Researchers call this neuroplasticity, and brain-based approaches to chronic pain are an active area of research. How much change happens, and how fast, varies a lot from person to person.

Your nervous system learned this pattern. For many people, it can learn a new one, and results vary.

For some people, learning about central sensitization is emotional. After years of hearing that nothing is wrong, they finally have words for what they feel.

How Our Recovery System Helps People With Fibromyalgia

Our recovery system is built around three pillars. Each one works on a different layer of the nervous system pattern researchers link to fibromyalgia.

1. Nervous System Education

Understanding what's happening in your body is the first step. When you see why your pain can move around, why rest doesn't fix the fatigue, and why your body reacts to things it shouldn't, fear often drops. A calmer mind can help the nervous system settle.

2. Neuroplasticity Protocols

These are the practical tools that retrain your nervous system. The practices are brain-based, and you can do them from bed. They're designed to gradually teach your nervous system to process signals more calmly. Results vary from person to person.

3. Coaching and Community

Recovery is easier with people around you. You get live coaching from people who've recovered themselves, plus a community of others going through the same thing. On the hard days, when the pain flares and you doubt everything, that support can help you keep going.

What makes this different from other approaches

Approach What It Does The Gap
Pain medications Dulls pain signals Isn't designed to retrain the nervous system pattern
Physical therapy Strengthens muscles and joints Isn't designed to work on central sensitization directly
Elimination diets / supplements May reduce some triggers Doesn't target the nervous system layer
"Just exercise more" General health advice Pushing without pacing can lead to flare-ups for some people. Ask your doctor what activity suits you.
Nervous system retraining Teaches skills meant to calm how the nervous system responds to pain signals Aims at the nervous system pattern researchers link to central sensitization

We support all of these, and you can use our recovery system alongside medication and physical therapy.

What to Expect, Honestly

  • Coaching and education. We don't diagnose, prescribe or treat. Keep seeing your doctor while you use the recovery system.
  • Your medication stays your doctor's call. Keep taking your medication unless your doctor says otherwise. Never change medication because of something you read here.
  • No promises on results. Recovery isn't promised, and results vary a lot from person to person. We don't give timelines, because every nervous system is different.
  • No pushing through. Pushing hard and then having a flare-up can keep people stuck. Your coach helps you stay inside your safe zone and pull back when your body asks you to. You don't need to reach a certain baseline to start.

Outcomes, Honestly

We track how clients do with two tools: the SF-36 Health Survey, which is widely used in clinical research, and our own Nervous System Health Assessment (NSHA). This is what the data shows, and what it can't show.

  • SF-36: 178 clients have a baseline and a follow-up survey, a median of 5.8 months apart. On a 0 to 100 scale, their average change across all 8 areas was +21.7 points. (Observational, no control group, and only 21.5% of people who took the first survey have a follow-up so far.)
  • Pain: on the SF-36 pain scale (higher means less pain), the average went from 57.9 to 70.2, a change of +12.2 points. That's the smallest change of the 8 areas. 55% of clients had a higher pain score at follow-up, and 45% didn't. (All conditions, with no fibromyalgia-only result yet, and no control group.)
  • NSHA: of 817 clients who took the NSHA more than once (a median of about 4 months apart), 64.4% improved their physical capability score and 58.8% improved their cognitive capability score. (Any measurable gain counts, so some changes are small. The NSHA is our own questionnaire, with no control group.)
  • Who this covers: clients with ME/CFS, long COVID, post-viral fatigue, fibromyalgia, POTS and dysautonomia, ages 9 to 86.

Limits: this isn't a controlled trial. There's no control group. People chose to join and chose to fill in surveys, which can make results look better. Only 21.5% of people who took the first SF-36 have a counted follow-up so far. We don't claim the recovery system caused these changes. Results vary from person to person. The SF-36 figures are a snapshot from September 16, 2026, and the NSHA figures run through March 20, 2026. Full methods and limits are on our Outcomes page.
