How’s it going, guys?
Miguel here with CFS Recovery, and today I want to share something that seems almost too simple to be true, but it’s been life-changing for me and many others on this recovery path:
When you stop obsessing over recovery… the results actually come faster.
Yep.
Not when you’re tracking every step, meal, or hour of sleep.
Not when you’re gripping the reins tighter and trying to force progress.
But when you learn to let go,that’s when things begin to shift.
Why Pushing Doesn’t Work (Even If You Think It Should)
If you’re like most people with CFS or any chronic illness, chances are you’ve been a doer your whole life.
Driven. Hard-working. Goal-oriented.
So naturally, when you get sick, your brain goes into overdrive:
✅ Track everything
✅ Find the perfect routine
✅ Follow the best supplement stack
✅ Measure every gain
But recovery doesn’t follow that formula. In fact, it’s the exact opposite.
Miguel shares his own experience:
“There were months when I tracked everything, hours of sleep, number of steps, glasses of water, even how many times I got up during the day. But all that control became exhausting… and it wasn’t even helping.”
When the need for control becomes a stressor, it feeds into the very nervous system dysregulation that fuels chronic fatigue syndrome.
Rigidity ≠ Progress
There’s nothing wrong with having structure or being aware of your pacing. That’s smart.
But when structure turns into obsession, you create mental loops like:
- “Am I doing too much?”
- “Am I doing too little?”
- “What if I don’t hit my 1.5km walk today?”
And here’s the truth:
Your body doesn’t operate like a spreadsheet.
It doesn’t progress linearly.
Some days you’ll feel stronger.
Other days, you’ll need to pull back.
That doesn’t mean you’re failing. It just means you’re human, and recovering.
When You Let Go, You Create Space for Healing
Letting go doesn’t mean giving up. It means loosening your grip enough to allow flexibility, intuition, and rest.
It means replacing hyper-tracking with trust.
It’s saying:
“I don’t have to calculate every step to know I’m moving forward.”
“I trust my body to guide me.”
“I believe I can get better, even without a perfect plan.”
And here’s the kicker:
That one mind shift, letting go of control, might be the very thing that gets you unstuck.
What It Looks Like to “Stop Caring” (In a Healthy Way)
Let’s clarify something:
“Stop caring” doesn’t mean giving up on your recovery or ignoring your health.
It means releasing the emotional intensity and mental pressure that keeps your nervous system in fight-or-flight mode.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
- Walking 1km instead of 1.5km,without guilt
- Sleeping in without worrying about your routine
- Saying no to tracking your heart rate for a week
- Laughing more, even if you’re still symptomatic
- Dropping the belief that you must “earn” recovery
Miguel explains:
“When I finally stopped micromanaging every symptom and just started living, that’s when my body started healing.”
Healing Comes from the Inside Out
You’re not going to “hack” your way to recovery by following a perfect protocol.
You can, however, change your internal world, and everything outside starts shifting.
As John Demartini says:
“Your beliefs become your thoughts.
Your thoughts become your words.
Your words become your actions.
Your actions become your habits.
Your habits become your values.
Your values become your destiny.”
It starts with belief.
Belief that you’re not broken.
Belief that healing is possible.
Belief that you don’t need to earn your recovery by being perfect.
